Tour operators are businesses that combine two or more travel services (e.g., transport, accommodation, meals, entertainment, sightseeing) and sell them through travel agencies or directly to Customers as a Package Holiday. Tour operators are the holiday companies that many
of us use when booking a UK or overseas trip. In the UK, there are around 900 tour operators who are members of ABTA. Unlike Travel Agents who sell holidays and a range of other travel facilites. Tour Operators deal with airlines, hotels, coach companies and other travel service providers. If we consider that travel agents as the arm of the business's, Tour Operators are like 'wholesalers' since they buy in 'bulk', they have to sort the hotel bedspaces, airline seats, transfer coaches, etc, this package is then sold to thr Travel Agents who then sold to customers directly or online. This is part of the 'Chain of Distribution'
